So seeing as the provisional tiers for Season 25 won't get announced until next week, I've decided to write a little recap of the previous season for people who didn't follow it.
I'm going to keep this recap a little short by limiting myself to covering only the teams that made it to semi-finals or further, though minor shoutouts to Team jEP!C, who hilariously enough made it to playoffs with 4 default wins and only winning 2 out of 6 maps in the regular season.
While most of the succesful teams in the season were your typical mix of experienced players and open players, one of the open teams that did especially well this season was Stacy's Mom Appreciation Society.
This team did exceptionally well in the regular season, only dropping 2 maps and having to win 2 games in golden cap, but the team that seemed to be shaping up to be the most dominant team in the division is the team they dropped 2 maps to, the Russian team 6kdrv.
A team who showed exceptional play throughout the regular season being the only team to not drop a single map. The team being comprised of a bunch of mid/high players playing in open, because of it being "95% safer than high", whatever that means. They unsuprisingly cruised their way through the season, though they dropped 2 maps in their playoffs run, getting absolutely rolled 5-0 in 15 minutes by stampede on granary and losing to Stacy's Mom Appreciation Society on Reckoner.
The other 2 teams that made it to the semi-finals were the veteran team of HerbsArmy, who used 8 players throughout the season so I won't be listing a roster for them, and Less Than Three, who played with a mix of prem highlander players offclassing and open players.
The semi-finals ended up being Stacy's Mom Appreciation Society vs 6kdrv. and HerbsArmy vs Less Than Three. 6kdrv won their match not as convincingly as you might have expected, dropping Reckoner 5-1, even though they won every mid that match. Them playing with a relatively inexperienced medic Vortex_Current, might have contributed to them not being able to capitalize on their early advantages that map. On the other side HerbsArmy won their matchup in 2 maps, with relative comfort.
The finals started on Gullywash where 6kdrv started off with a quick 2-0 lead, to which HerbsArmy quickly responded with a point of their own. What followed was a 17 minute long period where neither team managed to get another point, resulting in 6kdrv winning the map. The second map of the finals, cp_badlands, ended up being another low score game as 6kdrv won the first mid and rolled straight to last for the first point. While HerbsArmy managed to win the next mid, they didn't manage to get a single point in the next 28 minutes of the game which resulted in 6kdrv winning the map and becoming the ETF2L Season 24 Open Champions.
